The rehabilitation treatment with osseointegrated implants allows the reestablishment of aesthetics, function, phonation, chewing and swallowing. For such objectives to be achieved, each case must undergo a thorough reverse planning even before the installation of the implants and must understand the objective factors of each case, from those related to the surgical act and the prosthesis production and also subjective such as, the assessment of the existence of unbalanced occlusion as well as parafunctions, factors that can contribute to the immediate or late failure of treatment. Patients diagnosed with bruxism and / or occlusal overloads may have some type of complication related to failures in osseointegration or fracture of the implants already installed and in function, loosening or breaking of the screws or prosthetic components and even the breaking of restorations. Botulinum toxin has been shown to be a good alternative in the management of patients with this type of parafunction since it is a neurotoxin that acts directly on the mechanisms of muscle contraction. The aim of this literature review was to understand how botulinum toxin can contribute to good clinical practices by improving the predictability of treatments with osseointegrated implants.
