The hypocratic humoral theory emphasizes that the diverse qualities of man were explained by the way in which individuals were ‘tempered’ by the elements: earth, water, air and fire resulting in melancholic, phlegmatic, sanguine and angry temperaments. The present study is classified as a qualitative research, of the exploratory descriptive type with technical procedures based on a literature review. The aim of this study is to conduct a brief discussion on issues related to visagism as an auxiliary tool for diagnosis that should be considered a semiological construct and raise the pertinent choice in view of the different treatment possibilities. Descriptors: Visagisme, temperament, face shape, facial analysis. ¹ Sp. in Orofacial Harmonization, Me. in Orofacial Harmonization, PhD student in Biomedical Sciences. ² Spec. in Orofacial Harmonization and Stomatology. ³ Spec. in Orofacial Harmonization and Orthodontics.
