Vol. 15 – Number 57 – 2022 Case report Page 62-72 Use of Connecticut arch (CIA®) for intrusion of maxillary anterior teeth – case report Martina Gonçalves Piovesan¹ Henrique Hiroto Naoe² Niége Michelle Lazzari de Onofre³ José Gonçalves de Oliveira Filho² Tanara Prux Fehlberg³ Abstract Deep overbite is a vertical malocclusion that may present a set of skeletal, dental, and neuromuscular features that produce an excessive amount of vertical overjet in the incisor region. The treatment of overbite can be performed by extrusion of the posterior teeth, distalization of the posterior teeth, vestibular inclination of the anterior teeth (with relative intrusion), and real intrusion of the upper and lower incisors. There are different techniques for treating overbite, however, many of these have adverse effects due to the type of applied mechanics. The Connecticut Intrusion Arch CIA® is a pre-calibrated “V” bend in the rear region, which is made with pliers # 291 (Zattyr®) that provides adequate (light and continuous) intrusion forces. The objective of the work was to carry out a literature review on the CIA® arch, where it was described: definition, applicability, advantages, and disadvantages. A step-by-step technique of making this arch was performed and the application of the same was demonstrated in a clinical case. The simple and standardized intrusion arch was effective in incisor intrusion and vertical and sagittal mechanical control in the straight wire system in the clinical case presented and according to the results that were found in the literature review.
