Vol. 1 – Number 2 – 2020 Case report Page 32 FACIAL ORAL AESTHETIC TREATMENT ASSOCIATED WITH FACIAL HARMONIZATION Miquelle Vieira de Carvalho¹ Weider de Oliveira Silva² ABSTRACT Smile harmony is determined by the shape, size, position, color of the teeth, quality and quantity of apparent gingival tissue, which is determined by the thickness of the lips and also by the force of action of several muscles, these being classified as upper lip muscles. When gingival exposure occurs above or equal to 3 mm in the act of smiling, this smile is classified as a gingival smile. Its etiology may be related to several bone and dentoalveolar factors, as well as the upper lip and periodontal tissue. Furthermore, the association between several etiologies can also be found. For some patients, excessive gingival exposure can become a major nuisance in their social lives. Thus, several treatments can be performed in order to reduce such exposure, such as surgical treatments with emphasis on orthognathic surgery and gingivoplasty and non-surgical treatments with the use of orthodontic appliances and the application of botulinum toxin. The objective of the present work was to address relevant aspects in the delineation of the gingival smile, smile aesthetics and face harmonization. The importance of the study of the anatomy of the perioral musculature, observation and measurement of the amount of excess gingiva to evaluate the muscles involved, the correct dosage and the points of application to be effective in this clinical procedure, using botulinum toxin, filling materials, dental implant and ceramic dental contact lenses. Thus, we will describe the treatment performed.
