Lopes Trindade da Fonseca² Tatiana Ainsworth Reis² ABSTRACT This study reports the effects of botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid when used for dental treatment, especially of gingival smile and interproximal space closure in the absence of papila, with or without periodontal surgery. Aesthetic smile is determined not only by the color and shape of the teeth, but also by the lips and gums, which must be as harmonious as the dental criteria alone. In the presence of exaggerated gingival exposure, such a situation can influence a person’s self-esteem and social relationship. Several therapeutic options have been proposed for the treatment of gingival smile (gingivectomy or gingivoplasty, myectomy, orthognathic surgery) in order to give a harmony. With the advancement of treatments, botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid (when dealing with interproximal space closure) have been used as effective options, as it has been proven that the use of both increases predictability, result accuracy and accelerates the closure of treatments with the patient.
