Clinical and oral manifestations in a patient with advanced acute leukemia

Vol. 11 – Number 44 – 2020 CLINICAL DENTISTRY NOTEBOOK Case report Page 72-77 Clinical and oral manifestations in a patient with advanced acute leukemia Caetano Baptista Neto¹ ABSTRACT The present case report addresses the late clinical manifestations of acute leukemia in a patient with severe and advanced disease. A clinical examination was performed in a consultation and, based on clinical characteristics, he was immediately hospitalized with suspected malignant blood neoplasia. Patient was pale and presented a purple spot on the integument of the upper limb, jaundice in both eyes, prostration, weakness, easy fatigue, weight loss, lethargy, and lack of appetite. In the regional physical examination (head and neck), petechiae were noted on the lower eyelid, as well as on the palate, gums, bilateral jugal mucosa, tongue ulcer, among other alterations. Blood count, coagulogram were requested, but unfortunately the patient died on the next day. This case report points out the main clinical manifestations of acute leukemia in advanced stage, sharing the clinical and hematological findings of advanced leukemia to help or guide the dentist regarding care.
