Vol. 3 – Number 9 – 2021 Case report Page 18-24 Effectiveness of hyaluronidase in removing excess filling with hyaluronic acid – case report Regina Aparecida Salvador Rillo¹ Pedro Carvalho Feitosa² Abstract With the growing search for beauty and minimally invasive aesthetic procedures, there was also an increase in cases of complications resulting from fillings with hyaluronic acid. Detailed knowledge of facial anatomy and technical knowledge is what differentiates the qualified professional, even when performing minimally invasive procedures, such as fillings. This way, it is possible to smooth and even avoid the complications of using hyaluronic acid filler, thus ensuring the best results, both aesthetic and therapeutic. This study aims to raise considerations and indications for the use of hyaluronidase as a safe and effective option for reversing complications resulting from filling with hyaluronic acid. As a methodology, a bibliographic survey was carried out prior to the report of the clinical case where the patient underwent removal of a nodule formed by hyaluronic acid in the inferior periorbital region. After the application of hyaluronidase, degradation of the infraorbital hyaluronic acid nodule was noticeable. After 48 hours of enzyme application, a new filling with hyaluronic acid was performed in the region to promote the elimination of the patient’s infraorbital depression. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of hyaluronidase is effective and safe for the reversal of filling with hyaluronic acid, being essential for every professional who works with hyaluronic acid fillers. The knowledge of each professional is very important to determine how to use the enzyme, since there is no consensus in the literature regarding the dose and application technique.
