On July 30th our Guru, Professor Doctor Guilherme Janson left us prematurely. The Ortho Science magazine could not fail to pay tribute to the greatest Brazilian orthodontic researcher and frequent contributor to the magazine. Three people very close to Dr. Guilherme were invited to write this tribute. As a former student and personal friend I feel very represented by the words written. For sure, he will never be forgotten. Dr. Alexandre Moro One of the greatest exponents of orthodontics worldwide, Professor Guilherme Janson graduated as a dental surgeon in 1980 from FOB-USP, where he also earned his master’s degree (1983) and doctorate (1985) in Orthodontics. Post-Doctorate from the Department of Orthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto, Canada (1991), he was appointed in 2019 as the second most influential researcher in orthodontics worldwide, in a ranking that surveyed peer citations in scientific articles published between 2007 and 2017. From a traditional family of dental surgeons, Professor Guilherme Janson was the grandson of Emílio Janzon, one of the first dental professionals in Bauru, and son of Waldyr Antonio Janson (deceased in 2014), one of the pioneers and most eminent faculty members of FOB-USP, who actively participated in the establishment of the School, in 1962. Besides Guilherme, brothers Marcos, Reinaldo and Vinicius are also dental surgeons, and sister Suzana is a nutritionist. Click here for the complete tribute to Guilherme Janson.
