The options available do not meet these requirements. Patients are more reluctant to use vestibular and lingual braces every day. Many patients claim that aesthetic (ceramic) brachets do not convey the necessary and desired esthetics. With this new perspective, the use of aligners and lingual orthodontics has been highlighted in orthodontics. Lingual braces have the advantage of being imperceptible, however, the technique also has some disadvantages, such as difficulty in sanitizing, altered speech, discomfort for the tongue and reduced space for it. The aligners, in turn, are not totally imperceptible and depend on frequent collaboration regarding their use, besides the presence of attachments that are frequently rejected by the patients, and their success is directly linked to the patient’s collaboration²,10,¹¹. A study by Simon12 (2014) reviewed the tooth movements of 30 consecutive patients with Invisalign® and found that premolar rotation has the lowest precision, with only 40% of cases successfully corrected¹². ¹ Specialist and Master of Orthodontics – SL Mandic. ² Specialist in Orthodontics – FACSETE/CPGO – Natal/RN, Master of Dental Sciences – UFRN. ² Specialist in Orthodontics – UFPE, Specialist in Collective Health Dentistry (Recife Health Department). 4 Specialist in Orthodontics – UNIP/SP. 5 Master and PhD in Dentistry – Area of Concentration in Pharmacology, Anesthesiology and Drugs Therapeutics – FOP-UNICAMP, Professor and Researcher at the Center for Dental Research and Faculty of Dentistry – SL Mandic.
