INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY COLUMN – Crown lengthening surgery using a digitally produced surgical guide

Vol. 13 – Number 50 – 2022 INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY COLUMN Page 14-23 Crown lengthening surgery using a digitally produced surgical guide Fábio Shiniti Mizutani¹ Atila de Freitas² Victor Hugo Taddeo Nastri³ Abstract Crown lengthening surgery plays an important role in aesthetic treatments aimed at changing tooth color and shape. Performed through a gingival incision in an internal bevel at the cemento-enamel junction line, this surgery exposes the total clinical crown, with consequent stretching of the visible area of the tooth. The difficulty of the technique is precisely to find the cemento-enamel line that is below the gingival tissue. Thus, the objective of this clinical case report is to present the use of a surgical guide produced through the digital workflow, made by the integration of files with DICOM and STL extension, obtained through volumetric tomography and dental scanning, respectively. In a planning software, the data is entered and it is possible to superimpose the images creating a clear view of the work areas, culminating with the production of the surgical guide printed in resin. This stabilizes on the clinical crown and projects two lines of work. One is the gingival incision line, and the other is the osteoplasty area to produce biological space. In conclusion, the guide is quite faithful for the surgical procedure, facilitating the work of the clinician.
