Vol. 9 – Number 33 – 2019 Column of Tininha Page 11-15 Book central incisor – part 2 Ana Cristina Rocha Gomes¹ In this edition, we will continue our study on the anatomy of the Upper Central Incisor, this time addressing the general and optical forms and the classification of anterior teeth. General and optical forms of the Central Incisor The anterior teeth are classified into fundamental geometric shapes. J.L. Williams, in 1912, determined that the basic shape of the tooth would be similar to the shape of the face. Countless shapes can be found following the principle of shape / function, however, when we analyze contours and angles, the teeth can be classified into: square, triangular and ovoid. Presentation – Classification of anterior teeth When we classify a tooth according to its shape, in general we only consider the external contour of the crown by buccal. If we look at the tooth from other viewing angles, we will see that its shape is also correlated with certain characteristics and development of the vestibular and palatine ridges. ¹ Ma.
