Vol. 13 – Number 51 – 2020 How to Column Page 10-19 Determining the mesiodistal width of anterior teeth in patients with anodontia Diego Junior da Silva Santos¹ José Augusto Mendes Miguel² Abstract The treatment of congenitally absence of permanent lateral incisors must be interdisciplinary for the missing teeth replacement, either by permanent canines, osteointegrated implants or tooth-supported prosthesis. The chosen alternative needs to satisfy the individual’s aesthetic demands and at the same time reach the functional and periodontal requirements, not only at the end of the treatment, but also in the long term. In these cases, the present tooth crowns need to be reshaped for normal occlusion. The optimal tooth-size calculations should be planned previously to the orthodontic treatment to guide the orthodontist, and facilitate his communication with collaborating dentists, to obtain a normal dental occlusion. Thus, the aim of this work is to provide a simple tool for optimal anterior tooth-size calculation and to ensure good communication with the other clinicians. The authors of this article present a case report of a 12-year-old male patient, Angle class II malocclusion, division 1 and anodontia of 12, treated with space closure by the upper permanent canines.
