Vol. 5 – Number 18 – 2024 Literature review Page 60-69 The importance of Melasma knowledge for the HOF professional: updated review Thaís Rodrigues Galache¹ Marcelo Galache² ABSTRACT Objective: With the search for orofacial aesthetics increasing every day, Orofacial Harmonization professionals must update themselves and understand the complexity of Melasma, which affects many women, in which they lead to a great psychological shock and a negative impact on their lives. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of this condition and the treatments cited in the literature up to the present day. Material and Methods: It was based on 61 bibliographic references on the characteristics of Melasma and its treatments, scientifically based, using keywords such as Melasma, melanogenesis, facial aesthetics. Contextualization: Melasma, is a condition still misunderstood, even with a large number of studies, it is classified as chronic and still considered to have an undefined etiology. Current research leads to an understanding of the clinical characteristics of skin with Melasma, such as erythema with pronounced telangiectasias at the site of the lesion of the patches, increased vascularization of the dermis, in addition to histological evidence of the participation of senescent fibroblasts (SFB). In view of this, current treatments for hyperchromia act mainly with joint intervention in the cells of the dermal and epidermal layers, in addition to preventive treatments such as the use of sunscreen and therapies for photoaging.
