Use of hyaluronidase in the treatment of complications with hyaluronic acid facial fillers in orofacial harmonization

Vol. 4 – Number 15 – 2023 Literature review Page 70-78 Use of hyaluronidase in the treatment of complications with hyaluronic acid facial fillers in orofacial harmonization Andréia Gomes Moreira¹ ABSTRACT Orofacial harmonization is composed of minimally invasive procedures, where filling procedures with hyaluronic acid have a prominent position, due to its benefits against facial aging, promoting skin hydration, collagen synthesis and volumization, in addition to its characteristics such as biocompatibility, biodegradability and reversibility. Complications considered more serious with this product, although not very frequent, can be managed with the use of hyaluronidase, the enzyme responsible for the degradation of hyaluronic acid, such as vascular obliterations. The aim of this article was to carry out a narrative review of the literature on the use of hyaluronidase in the main complications of hyaluronic acid facial fillers. It was concluded that hyaluronidase is indicated for the management of complications related to fillers with hyaluronic acid, being effective in the management of severe complications, especially when observed vascular alterations, tissue necrosis and livedo reticularis.
