Mandibular incisors reshaping to correct Bolton discrepancy

Vol. 14 – Number 56 – 2021 Case report Page 39-48 Mandibular incisors reshaping to correct Bolton discrepancy Oscar Mario Antelo1 Thiago Martins Meira2 Ariel Adriano Reyes Pacheco3 Sergio Luiz Mota Júnior4 Orlando Tanaka5 Abstract Agenesis of a mandibular incisor, besides causing an esthetic problem, can generate undesirable teeth inclinations, lower midline deviation and increased overjet and overbite, in addition to a Bolton discrepancy. The objective of this paper is to present an interdisciplinary treatment approach performed in a young male patient with a mandibular left central incisor agenesis. The opening of small spaces between mandibular incisors was performed with coil springs. Space distribution for reshaping mandibular incisors with composite upturned the Bolton discrepancy and provided aesthetic and functional results with adequate overjet and overbite. Descriptors: Class II malocclusion, lower incisor agenesis, Bolton discrepancy. 1 Orthodontics – Universidad Católica Boliviana San Pablo – Santa Cruz de la Sierra – Bolivia. 2 School of Life Sciences PUCPFR, Department of Education XII – Guanambi – UNEB. 3 Department of Stomatology – Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra – Unidad de Postgrado – Santo Domingo – Distrito Nacional – Dominican Republic. 4 Orthodontics – UFJF. 5 School of Life Sciences – PUCPR.
