Vol. 13 – Number 52 – 2022 NOTEBOOK OF CLINICAL DENTISTRY Case report Page 81-84 Oral melanocytic nevus – case report Ana Paula Cota Viana¹ Ana Célia Lima Cruz¹ Luciano Henrique Ferreira Lima² Rosana Maria Leal¹ ABSTRACT Melanocytic nevus are skin or mucosa malformations consisting of a benign proliferation of cells from the neural crest and may be congenital or acquired, the latter being the most prevalent type in the oral mucosa. Its manifestation can occur in any region of the oral mucosa, but its most common location is the hard palate, followed by the jugal mucosa, gingiva, lip, soft palate, and retromolar area. The aim of this work is reported a clinical case of melanocytic nevus treated by excisional biopsy, emphasizing that, despite the low risk of malignancy, it is a recommended procedure, since this lesion has clinical feature common to melanoma in its initial phase.
