Vol. 11 – Number 42 – 2020 IMPLANTOLOGY LOG Original article Page 58-63 Anesthetic efficacy of 2% lidocaine with epinephrine 1: 50000 and 1:80000 in molars after a mandibular block Adel Martínez Martínez¹ Giselle Rico-Sanchez² Hizell Tovar-Ortega² ABSTRACT Material and Methods: Randomized, double-blind clinical trial in which thirty volunteers with indication to endodontic treatment in molars with vital pulp randomly received a 1.8 mL of 2% lidocaine with 1:50,000 and 1:80,000 epinephrine in a conventional mandibular block. The subjective and objective signal of soft tissue numbness, the degree (average lectures at five and ten minutes), successful pulpal anesthesia (no response to the maximum stimulation 80 μA in two consecutive readings) was evaluated with an electronic pulp tester. A cold test, latency period, pain in pulp access and canal instrumentation evaluated with a verbal analogue scale (VAS) and the need for complementary anesthesia. Statistical analysis was performed using a chi square test and Student test. Results: The anesthetic success rates of 2% lidocaine solutions containing 1:50,000 and 1:80,000 epinephrine concentrations were 13.71% and 12.5%, and the degree of pulp anesthesia was greater at 10 minutes (59 μA and 54.93 μA), respectively. Regarding cold pain test, pulp and pain access canal instrumentation, the difference was not statistically significant. Regarding the need for complementary anesthesia, 93.33% of the subjects in the group of 1:50,000 epinephrine did not require it, statistically significant data. Conclusions: Two percent lidocaine solution used for IANB achieved similar success rates when used with 1:50,000 or 1:80,000 epinephrine concentration.
