Relationship of periodontal disease development in the presence of orthodontic treatment

Relationship of periodontal disease development in the presence of orthodontic treatment

Vol. 15 – Number 58 – 2022 Case report Page 31-36 Relationship of periodontal disease development in the presence of orthodontic treatment Camila Priscila de Matos Pereira¹ Mylena Barbosa Cunha¹ Ana Paula Tulio Manfron² Fernando Ogg Annunziatto³ Gabriela Fracasso Moraes³ Abstract The aim of this study was to report a case that suggests the relationship between the presence of orthodontic treatment and the development of periodontal disease. Orthodontic treatment may not only contribute to plaque retention, but also alter the microbiome and bone response to the bacterial challenge. In susceptible patients without proper plaque control, orthodontic treatment may contribute to the development of periodontal disease, including dental loss.
