Vol. 14 – Number 53 – 2022 Information and Technology Column Page 8-15 Use of Er – YAG laser and piezoelectric ultrasound for clinical crown lengthening surgery Fábio Shiniti Mizutani1 Atila de Freitas2 Victor Hugo Taddeo Nastri3 Otavio Augusto Ribeiro da Silva4 ABSTRACT Crown lengthening surgery occupies a fundamental space in aesthetic dentistry, improving mesio-distal / cervico-incisal proportionality, with a consequent dental elongation caused by gingival removal at the cemento-enamel junction. Associated with this procedure, restoring the biological space through osteoplasty is imperative to avoid recurrences. The most common ways to perform gingivoplasty are through scalpel blades and electrosurgery, and osteotomy with micro chisels or drills. More recently, the use of surgical laser associated with piezo electric ultrasound was introduced in this procedure with the aim of meeting the surgical requirements and promoting results with good predictability and improved postoperative period. This work aims to report the use of this technology that can bring benefits to the surgeon and patient, translating into controlled and postoperative surgery with less possibility of complications.
