Vol. 4 – Number 15 – 2023 Case report Page 30-40 Application of botulinum toxin on the upper third of the face – case report Nilton Ricardo Vianna Pozo¹ Silvia Aparecida Gimenes Cantele Oliani² Pedro Carvalho Feitosa³ ABSTRACT The objective of this case report is to describe the application of botulinum toxin type A for transient paralysis of some expression muscles in the upper third of the face in order to eliminate wrinkles for a period. The most performed aesthetic procedure worldwide is the injection of botulinum toxin and is widely used in wrinkle treatments, being one of the relevant non-invasive techniques of the current times, being able to avoid or postpone surgical procedures. The application of Botulinum Toxin is a non-surgical, minimally invasive, aesthetic, therapeutic, temporary, dose-dependent, potent, safe and effective procedure. Botulinum toxin type ‘A’ is a neurotoxin that acts by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, preventing it from binding to terminal receptors in human motor nerves, thus producing muscle paralysis. The dose of botulinum toxin used varies according to the extent and strength of the muscle to be treated. The greater the muscle strength or the more extensive the muscle, the greater the dose to be used. Clinical case report: Female patient, 47 years old, complaining of wrinkles in the regions of the frontal, glabellar, periorbicularis and procerus muscles, with a history of only one application in these regions approximately 10 months ago. 44 units were applied. Good results are expected, with elimination of the vast majority of wrinkles after 15 days and a new consultation will be carried out after 90 days to assess the durability of the toxin in this period. From the results obtained, it is expected to conclude that the treatment with toxin injection, in addition to having a high degree of patient satisfaction, also has a low rate of complications or side effects, in addition to having low complexity for application by a trained professional.
