The sample was composed by 70 students from the Dentistry course from the Federal University of Ceará, Sobral Campus. Measurements of the interalar (DIA), intercanthal (DIL), intercanine (DIC) distances were carried out, as well as the cervical-incisal (DCI) and mesiodistal (DMD) distance of the central incisors (ICS) with the aid of a digital caliper, as well as photographs for the face shape evaluation and central incisor were analyzed using CC 2017 Photoshop image editing software. Descriptive analysis and Pearson’s chi-square application test for face and tooth shape association among genders. Pearson’s correlation coefficients (r) were calculated to determine the relationship between DEC, DIA and DIC. The female gender presented higher frequency (n = 46; 65.7%) and the average age was between 22 ± 2.55 years old. The oval face shape was the most prevalent in females (n = 38; 54.29%) and males (n = 10; 14.29%), showing a strong relationship with the oval ICS shape, showing statistically significant results (P<0.05). No correlations were identified between DIC and DIL (r = 0.34), DIC and DIA (r = 0.36) and DIA and DIL (r = 0.40). With study limitation sit can be concluded that among the facial anatomical references the only one that was related to dental anatomy was the face shape.
