Pode ser definido como uma atividade involuntária e hábito parafuncional, sendo caracterizado pelo ato de ranger (bruxismo excêntrico) ou apertar os dentes (bruxismo cêntrico) que resulta em desgastes da superfície dentárias, causando consequências irreversíveis ao sistema mastigatório, onde sua etiologia é complexa e multifatorial.   Descritores: Bruxismo, bruxismo do sono, síndrome da disfunção da articulação.   Abstract The term bruxism comes from the Greek “Bruchein” and means squeezing, friction or friction of the teeth.
