Cutting depth of the diamond tips taking into account the time

Vol. 11 – Number 42 – 2020 CLINICAL DENTISTRY NOTEBOOK Original article Page 105-110 Cutting depth of the diamond tips taking into account the time Paulo Rompante1 Ricardo Jorge Barreiro Maia2 Ana Margarida Freitas Peixoto Guedes Faria3 Nasser Hussein Fares4 ABSTRACT Ten diamond burs of three commercial brands (Fava, KG Soresen and Microdont) of cylindrical shape and medium granulation were tested on a 5 mm glass plate for immediate time, 5 cycles and 10 cycles. In the initial cut, the burs were more efficient with the Microdont bur being the best performance. In other times, there was a decline of the eficiecy of burs and the probable cause was the displacement of granules or rounding of the facets. All tips had a decline in cutting capacity during 5 or 10 cycle drilling. Microdont’s diamond tip showed better performance in any time of use in absolute value. Microdont and KG Sorensen tips, when new in clinical practice, have the same cutting efficiency. It is recommended to restrict the use of the tips for a long period. Diamond tips with medium granulation should be used a maximum of 5 times and must be changed for new patients.
