With the increase in violence in large urban centers, it is evident that individuals are exposed to risk situations which are potential causes of mandibular fractures with a history of gunshot wound injury. In this sense, given the complexity of the case, the oral and maxillofacial surgeon is required to provide early and accurate care to avoid a negative evolution of the case that can lead to a definitive treatment without significant benefits to the patient. Among the main treatments used, the main internal treatment options are the rigid internal fixation of bone fragments and, alternatively, there is the mediate treatment performed through surgical procedures of more detailed temporomandibular reconstruction, such as choosing a system more robust that withstands a load of greater force. In this article, the objective is to report a clinical case of mandible fracture caused by a firearm projectile, in addition to describing the main forms of treatment used in this type of facial fracture, associating the advantages and disadvantages of them and their correlations to the case study developed. Descriptors: Mandibular fractures, jaw, facial injury, mandibular reconstruction. ¹ Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology Service – UFBA/OSID/HGE DOI: 10.24077/2021;1248-4448
