Abstract  Nowadays it is assumed that cone beam computed tomography presents advantages over conventional radiography in several areas of Dentistry. However, there is lack of consensus in the literature concerning studies that compare these exams. While some of them showed better results for the computed tomography scan, others found opposite results, or did not find differences between them. Considering the importance of frontal cephalometry in the diagnosis of Orthodontics, the aim of this study was to analyze linear measurements made on dry skulls using frontal cephalometric radiography compared to cone beam computed tomography. Materials comprised five dry skulls on which five linear measurements were directly made in millimeters. Data analysis was based on a comparison between measurements made directly on the skulls, with cone beam computed tomography and with frontal cephalometric radiography. For statistical analysis, Friedman test was used with significance level of 0,05. Results showed that both imaging diagnostic methods are reliable since no statistically significant differences were found among the five measures evaluated in this study.   Descriptors: Cephalometrics, tomography, radiography.
