They are responsible for their patient’s overall health and are vulnerable to any adversity, such as an emergency medical episode. Thus, it is necessary to report on the clinical manifestations and the conduct of the dental surgeons in front of them, in order to discuss control measures and prevention of complications. The objective of this research was to analyze the perception and technical knowledge of teachers of a private higher education institution in relation to medical emergencies in the dental field. Data were collected from 27 teachers of the Undergraduate Dentistry Course. All questionnaires were applied by a single researcher and the results were described using frequencies and percentages. In order to cross categorical data obtained with the research results, Fisher’s exact test was used as the statistical significance test, the statistical software applied was the SPSS 15, and the significance level adopted was p = 0.05 or 5%. Most interviewees and the professional community do not feel prepared to deal with emergency situations and do not have the necessary apparatus to do so, a fact that highlights the need for changes in the perspective of this problem by professionals. It is necessary to be prepared to deal with the main medical emergencies in a dental office, through knowledge of the conducts, SBV training, and possession of specific equipment and medicines.
