Vol. 12 – Number 48 – 2021 INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY COLUMN Page 14-23 Correction of dental vertical discrepancy using ceramic laminated veneers and surgical crown lengthening Fábio Shiniti Mizutani¹ Atila de Freitas² Victor Hugo Taddeo Nastri³ ABSTRACT The most common causes of cosmetic dental patients complaints are the mesiodistal/cervicoincisal discrepancy of the upper anterior teeth, associated with positioning, wear, in addition to changes in color and shape. Ceramic laminate veneers have become popular in modern dental practice due to their high aesthetic results and conservative dental preparation. We can state that a good treatment plan based on a diagnostic wax-up tested with a mock-up and approved by the patient is crucial, identifying the structures and the transition between dental and gingival esthetics. This case report aims to exemplify how to transfer diagnostic information to the patient’s mouth and direct it not only to the restorative dentist, but also to the surgeon when performing crown elongation as well as the dimensions and anatomy of esthetic restorations. A diagnostic wax-up was performed by the laboratory technician, obeying criteria and incisal and anteroposterior gingival curvatures. Afterwards, clinical crown augmentation surgery with bone access via the sulcus was performed, and after the healing period, laminated ceramic facets were performed. In conclusion, a new dental rehabilitation condition can be provided in a predictable way, through a coordinated and oriented workflow, leading to a pleasant and long-lasting aesthetic and functional result.
