The aim of this paper is to report the case of an adolescent patient with FOP, demonstrating the clinical and surgical interdisciplinary approach (dental and medical), as well as discussing the evolution of this disease and possible complications of inadequate surgical treatment. In this case, the surgical procedure performed were dental extractions under general anesthesia, avoiding any infiltrative local anesthesia or broad surgical flap to protect the orofacial muscles from possible induction of local ossification. In the two-year post-operative follow-up, the patient presented a normal mouth opening and no ectopic ossification was found. It was concluded that oral surgeries performed in a hospital environment under general anesthesia and with conservative technique can prevent facial muscle calcifications in patients with fibrodysplasia ossificans progressive.
